Morning Drive and Inspiring Scenes
I left the house very late this morning, I didn't get into work until like nine forty. It's 64 degrees outside and overcast.
I was driving down Library Avenue and listening to WHYY on the radio like I normally do, when an interview with Billie Eilish came on. And I decided to not take the right onto East Chestnut Hill Road but to keep going straight onto South Chapel Street.
There were a few scenes that I wanted to pull over somewhere to take photos.
On the sidewalk on the right, just before going under the bridge for the Delaware Turnpike, I saw a plant growing out into the sidewalk.
It had grown up next to the sidewalk and the branches came cascading down to block the sidewalk but there was a doorway made in it by people or cyclists maybe, but it was beautiful to see maybe the coexistence of nature and a busy road and a busy construction site and the resilience of the plant or the drive of humans just pushing through an obstacle but not removing it altogether. Leaving the plant be. But also, it was just beautiful to see a pretty passageway for the sidewalk.
When do I want to set aside time to come back to take the photo? I don't want the plant to get cut down before I get the opportunity to take the photo.
Another scene I saw that I really liked was around Cooch's Bridge Battlefield.
Telephone pole being overrun with plants and vines.
Trees growing over the road to make a tunnel.
Iron Hill in the distance.
For this one I'll have to return to get a clearer vision of the scene that I want, another one of those things that would probably be best on a 35mm lens, but I have a 50mm on my Pentax K1000. I was also thinking that the overcast weather was really serving me today...
If I can, before I forget, some of the other things on my mind today were:
- How I'm jealous of other artists that started a career when they were much younger, (Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and The 1975)
- Scenes I saw on my way to work when it was raining the other day:
- The steeple of Newark United Methodist Church (I think) on East Main Street in downtown Newark
- Iron Hill coming South on South College Avenue before the intersection with East Chestnut Hill Road, also in the rain with Iron Hill hidden in the clouds of rain or fog.
